On May 26, 2024, KEMO CLUB Vol.9 was held.
Three years and four months since Vol.8. It was a long, quiet period of recharging. During our absence, the VRChat dance music scene had changed fast, with new events and virtual clubs popping up everywhere. Some even told us, "We'll take over where KEMO CLUB left off." Bold words, and we appreciated the energy.
But somehow, I never quite found a space that felt like what I was looking for. On the real-world side, SORAMI had come through COVID and started working more in live stage production. The more experience I gained on the job every day, the more I kept thinking, "This isn't quite it. Something's still missing." That feeling of not being fully satisfied kept coming back.
And honestly, projects you can't talk about to anyone are just boring. Because you end up alone. As if to drive that point home, on my birthday in 2023, two friends showed up to say happy birthday. It wasn't like I was completely alone, but I really wanted to do something bigger.
Like, I want a room full of people, talking to everyone about everything! That restless energy was burning. And honestly, if I could bring back the fun memories from before, how great would that be? That became the final push to bring KEMO CLUB back.
With that, the Vol.9 lineup came together: gigash, longtime resident F Rabbeat, and organizer SORAMI. VJ Tuna returned to handle the visuals, and the four of us kicked off the relaunch.
To mark our return, we also set up new community infrastructure. We launched a VRChat Group, giving attendees an easy way to join events.
Those three years of silence weren't wasted. But I knew I had to get the world and the infrastructure right first. Without that, the vision I had in my head was never going to work.
